In smoke sauna there is no chimeny only a small hole in wall. That way whole sauna filled with smoke while sauna is heated. Stove is much bigger than normal and therefor hest is more gently. Sauna is heated ones and heating takes normally 4-6h, but then sauna is warm the same time.dr_norbert kirjoitti: Pe 28.04.2017 01:39 I just read a bit about the hotel and you are right about the smoke sauna. But what is that? I don't think I've had one like that! Exciting!

Re: Finnish tourist advice.
Salmon is popular, in oven or smoked. Smoked whitefish is popular too, atleast in the north. Depends where you are going to eat. Vendace is also quite popular, especially as a marketfood.dr_norbert kirjoitti: La 29.04.2017 21:59 Thank you for the description. That is totally new to me.

Re: Finnish tourist advice.
Never saw sardines except for canfood. You can buy herring from market but never have i seen it in a restaurant. Usually it is salmon in restaurant. Vendace is small, if you want small :D ( https://reseptitaivas.fi/hallinta/wp-co ... x336.jpg Like that.dr_norbert kirjoitti: Su 30.04.2017 00:04 How about the little fishies like sardines or herring?

Re: Finnish tourist advice.
There is a guided icefishing in the resort, you go to the local lake and fish ( and try the winter-nets) and made a lunch in open fire. I think you can make something from fish on that trip. There is 2 restaurants in the resort, who use local ingredients, so i think there is something from fish.

Re: Finnish tourist advice.
Where are you from? Many Finnish people go to Lapland for holidays, I myself love the nature and the vast wilderness you can experience in Lapland. I don't know if it is a good way to celebrate marriage milestone, but how would your parents like to go for a nice little skiing trip during night time and see if they can spot some northern lighting? :) After an hour or two in cold darkness it is super relaxing to sit in a hot sauna for a while, and drink your favorite beverage too :)

Re: Finnish tourist advice.
My parents are from the New York City area, where I grew up as well, although I live in London now. I think we will definitely do some cross-country skiing as we've never tried that. And definitely will be hunting the Northern Lights! :)
Thanks for the thoughts - sounds like we are planning things correctly so far. Love the sauna!

Re: Finnish tourist advice.
Remember to roll in snow between sauna sessions or swim in a hole in the ice if that is possible. That gives you authentic Finnish sauna feeling. And a beer after sauna ofcourse.
