The American Guy
Hei sotavasara. I speak basic Finnish, but honestly it's already tough jumping in to meet new people... maybe I'll hold back on making a fool of myself just yet, and continue in English. I'm 28 years old, and moved here to Tampere from Wisconsin, USA after marrying a Finn almost 6 years ago. I left behind a lot of friends and hobbies, but I'm building it all back slowly. Warhammer is the latest, and a friend told me about this forum. I'm amazed there's such a huge wargaming community here! I couldn't exactly pack up my armies, so I'm starting from scratch with a WoC FB army, about 3500 points worth, which is on its way through the mail.
But this wasn't supposed to be just an introduction... I'm looking for some help figuring out what the scene is like in Tampere. What are the good stores? Where does everyone play? Are there tournaments or... whatever you can tell me. I'm also keen to just find out who's around, and who's confident with their english... I studied Finnish for 11 months at TAKK, and I'm still working on it on my own, but considering how few people I know so far, I could really use some people I can fully communicate with. Thanks everybody.

I think most of the people is using Puolenkuunpelit Tampere to buy miniatures. Here is also Fantasiapelit Tampere. I use both of them, but with the discount I recommend Puolenkuunpelit Tampere. It is in keskustori, just underneath of Mcdonald's restaurant.
Where to play? There are a gaming table's at the both shops and probably more used by gaming is Puolenkuunpelit Tampere. There is also a gaming club called Tampereen Taktiikkapelaajat ry, which is playing every thursday at the Hervannan Vapaa-aikakeskus class room number is 213. The time is 17-21, when we are in there and playing games. The fee is 10 euros for whole year, so it's not too expensive. For the tournaments there is a couple tournaments in local. Normally you can sign in to tournaments in sotavasara and you can find tournaments in this area: viewforum.php?f=11
Here is a topics for these tournaments:
Fantasy battle:

40k:

I think I answered most of your questions. If you want a opponent to play against fantasy battle, just pm me and we'll figure out a date when to play.

Re: The American Guy
Good information here! Thanks Thamus, for making me feel a little more welcome. In a way, I think gaming groups in Finland seem a little bigger because it's a smaller country, and much more possible to know all the other groups. Back home, it's kind of like everything is so saturated and dense that everyone is split into little fragment groups, instead of a whole town playing in one big group.
Sir T0inen, you made my day with this info! I didn't expect to hear such good news. When I ordered my stuff, I did it thinking I'd probably rarely if ever get to actually play again, but I wanted to do it anyway because I enjoy converting and painting. I have to admit, though... I'm much happier knowing I'm not alone with it. I wasn't aware of Puolenkuunpelit Tampere when I ordered my army, so I'll be waiting another week or so for shipping, and then the task of assembling. I'm also going to be doing a lot of converting and sculpting green stuff, so I won't be ready to play for some time still. However, when I am, I will definitely be there on Thursdays. I can't believe I didn't know about the store in keskustori... I've been there countless times, having lived here for almost 2 years, and my wife for 4. I'm actually curious to check out their arms and armour, if it's suitable as full contact training equipment; another hobby I left behind was Fior di Battiglia, 15th century italian swordsmanship, with the Chicago Swordplay Guild. Same stuff they do at School of European Swordsmanship Helsinki... I planned to join SESH Tampere, but found out after I moved here it had closed down and the website was never updated. I was incredibly dissappointed!
Anyway, thanks again for the help. If anyone else has more tips or just wants to say hello, please do. I'm admitting it; moving across the sea hasn't done much for my social life, and I'd be happy to meet some people.

Re: The American Guy
In addition to the groups in Tampere itself there is another gaming group in Kangasala, which gathers every tuesday at 18:00. The place where we meet is 15 km away from Keskustori (Link to map), but the problem is that there is practically no public transportation to there. Some of our players drive to the from Tampere so the transportation problem can be solved that way though. If interested send me a PM and I can arrange you a game for some suitable tuesday.
My english might be slightly rusty but I hope it's readable.

Re: The American Guy
Eöl, your post was practically perfect in terms of language. My wife works in the area you mentioned, so we're pretty familiar with the puzzling lack of transportation, especially while school is out for the summer. I'll be keeping this thread handy for the info... I really expect several weeks if not a month before I've got the army fully assembled and ready to go. Because everyone has been so accomodating, I think I'll gladly jump into the local groups and play as soon as I can. Seems like good people.
Another sword group? I'm checking into this Thamus, thank you very much for telling me about it. I'll be checking into it! It was honestly one of the only things that I was really bothered about leaving behind. About converting and painting, I've been playing for around 14 years, and a lot of armies have come and gone. Most recently I had a pretty huge OnG army, which I had mostly painted, magnetized, and converted. I even made travelling cases for it all, by lining carry-on luggage bags with steel sheet, which the base magnets would stick onto. However, this new WoC army will be my first experience actually sculpting. I'm sure I will make a thread for it here. Suomalaiset usein sanovat he ymmärtävät mua, mutta mä luulen 2-3 vuotta viela vaille voin sanoa mä oikeasti puhun teidan kieli!
